7 good reasons you should recycle scrap metal

By 11 July, 2022 No Comments

Have you been cleaning out the house over the last few months making room and creating some space or just tired of seeing all that old ferrous and non-ferrous metal lying around? As we focus more on helping the environment, recycling scrap metal like aluminium, copper, stainless steel, ferrous metals and the like is really important and can even make you some money. If you need some cash, then recycling scrap metal is the way to go.

Here are some simple reasons why you should recycle your scrap metal.

1. All types of recycling helps protect the environment

Recycling your scrap metal is sustainable and helps reduce the need to mine raw materials to make new metal. When we consider how easy it is to recycle and reuse metals, we should recycle more. Do we want our kids growing up in a natural environment degraded by pollution and rubbish?

2. Recycling helps save energy

Recycling metal uses less energy than mining and the processing raw materials to create new metals. Did you know it takes about the same amount of energy to make five aluminium cans from raw materials as it does to make 100 cans from recycled metal. The Steel Recycling Institute found that steel recycling saves enough energy to electrically power the equivalent of 18 million homes for a year.

3. Recycling scrap metal helps cut our carbon emissions

Mining and the refining processes required to produce new metals releases CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. These greenhouse gases and carbon dioxide are harming our efforts to deal with climate change. Recycling reduces carbon emissions.

4. Recycling creates less pollution

Recycling helps reduce the need to transport raw materials long distances by truck, rail or ship. Less transport reduces the amount of pollution created and energy used.

5. Recycling reduces the amount of landfill

Landfill sites contain a lot of recyclable materials so we need to make an effort to recycle ferrous and non-ferrous metals of every kind rather than burying them. In fact, landfill sites have been proven to be pollutants of underground waterways with leaching of chemicals into the surrounding environment. If we recycled more ferrous and non-ferrous metals and stopped throwing everything in the bin, we would reduce the amount of recyclable materials going to landfill.

6. Recycling creates jobs

The more we recycle, the more jobs are created in the recycling industry. A study by the Australian Government showed that recycling creates 9.2 jobs per 10,000 tonnes of waste. The same amount of waste going to landfill creates 2.8 jobs. Recycling wins every time!

7. Recycling puts money in your pocket

We pay great prices for scrap metal. It doesn’t matter how much you have to recycle, a boot load or a truck load- it all pays. We turn your waste scrap metal into money.  We take the metal off your hands and can pay you cash on the spot. We guarantee top dollar – even for small amounts. Why throw it away when you can recycle and have a few extra dollars in your pocket? The benefits of metal recycling far outweigh sending scrap metal to landfill. It’s not only better for the environment, but also better for you and for your kids, and their kids.
