Todd Puts Pedal to the Metal in Growing New Recycling Business

Motor racing enthusiast and former champion driver, Todd Wanless is in the fast lane to success in the business of metal recycling.

Todd is the driving force behind the fast-growing Raw Metal Corp business at Wacol in Brisbane’s southern industrial suburbs.

The new privately-owned family business, still in its first year of operation, is ramping up a rapid expansion program for its wide ranging recovery and export services.

Raw Metal Corp buys and collects scrap metals from throughout Brisbane and then processes them with its state-of-the-art machinery for export to overseas manufacturers.

This environmentally sustainability service not only helps tackle one of the biggest contributors to domestic and commercial litter, it also breathes new life into discarded materials that can be utilised by manufacturers in the creation of new products.

Todd brings more than 30 years of diverse experience in the automotive, metal recycling, truck and equipment hire, auto parts, wrecking, machinery, property and finance industries to his new Raw Metal Corp business, which he established in the second half of 2014.

He is a former champion Queensland Sprintcar racer who was not only adept at the speedway but also on bitumen circuit tracks where he has competed at the Bathurst 1000 and in V8Supercars.

After establishing solid foundations and investing in industry-leading equipment for Raw Metal Corp over the past year, Todd now has his sights set firmly on steering the business to an accelerated growth path in the years ahead.

“There is huge demand from the rapidly developing countries of Asia for our end-of-life metals that they can re-use in the manufacturing of new products,” he says.

“The key is the supply of consistent quality and quantity of materials to export standard and our focus to date has been on ensuring we have the systems, technologies and people in place to deliver this.”

“We are now looking to organically grow the business through the collection and recovery of more scrap metals in Brisbane to meet the ongoing demand for our shipments, particularly from the fast-growing economies of South East Asia.”

Raw Metal Corp buys and collects scrap metals from domestic and commercial users including ferrous metals (such as construction materials, heavy and light steel, white goods, roofing iron and motor vehicles) and non-ferrous metals (such as aluminum, copper, electric motors, radiators and batteries). Todd also operates various auto parts wholesale operations from the Wacol site and others locations across Brisbane’s southside and western suburbs.
